Campus Software Licensing & Purchasing Agreements

The California State University has several system-wide agreements in place that allow faculty and staff, and in some cases auxiliary organizations, the opportunity to obtain software at discounted prices. Note that IT Support Services does not support all the products listed.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe Creative Cloud is a group of applications used for design, productivity, and development. Adobe CC is available on Windows and Mac computers, as well as some mobile devices.

Popular Adobe Creative Cloud applications include Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects, Bridge, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Audition, and Prelude for various photo, video, and multimedia editing.

Note: Adobe Acrobat Pro is not needed for viewing and filling PDFs; only if you are creating PDFs. 

By default, all Chico State Faculty, Staff, and Students have been given access to Higher Education Apps. Higher Education Apps let users create a variety of visual content, including animations, posters, and social media posts.

Camtasia Studio & SnagIt

Camtasia: Create professional videos without having to be a video pro. Easily record your on-screen activity or import HD camera video, customize and edit content, and share your videos with viewers on nearly any device.

SnagIt: Sometimes you need more than words to explain something. SnagIt lets you quickly create videos and images that will change the way you teach others, provide feedback, document, and more.​​​​​

SnagIt & Camtasia are available for installation on all campus computers for Staff and Faculty. Students may be able to use the software on campus lab machines. Find more information here.

FileMaker

The Chancellor's Office has negotiated discounts for a number of software products. All licensing and media should be purchased through ITSS. To get a license of FileMaker, please reach out to the Software Purchasing team at ITSS.

GlobalProtect VPN

GlobalProtect is the campus-provided Virtual Private Network (VPN). It is installed on all campus machines by default, but can also be installed on personal devices. Staff & Faculty can install it on their personal devices by visiting here. Students will need to first request access before installing. 

Kaltura

Kaltura is a streaming media server, similar to YouTube. Why does streaming matter? Because streaming allows you to view video and audio without downloading huge files. Find more information about Kaltura on our Knowledge Base.

Kurzweil 3000

Kurzweil 3000 is an inclusive technology, text-to-speech, learning tool that supports the concept of Universal Design for Learning with a collection of powerful reading, writing, test-taking, and study skill tools that make content accessible and efficient to all students, staff, and faculty.

MATLAB

MATLAB is a proprietary programming language and software client developed by MathWorks used for matrix manipulations, analysis of data, and implementation of algorithms, and with the installation of additional packages, provides a multitude of scientific, engineering, and mathematical tools. Mendeley Cite (Word Add-in)

Mendeley Cite from Microsoft AppSource is a brand-new citation tool that is compatible with Microsoft 365 and allows students to seamlessly insert references and bibliographies into their Word documents.

Otter.ai

Otter.ai is a software that converts live speaking into a written transcription. You can get real-time streaming transcripts and, within minutes, rich, searchable notes with text, audio, images, speaker ID, and key phrases. This can be used to write papers, take notes, dictate interviews, import or sync recordings from other services, and even integrate with Zoom.

PollEverywhere

PollEverywhere for Enterprise turns virtual training and meetings into memorable interactive presentations. Use PollEverywhere for PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides to add activities to your presentations with just a few clicks, then share your screen and watch with the team as everyone's response appears in real-time.

PowerBI (Microsoft)

PowerBI (free) allows you to interact with and explore your data as well as create dashboards and act as a data visualization software. PowerBI is available to students for free via https://app.powerbi.com/home by signing in with your Chico State email account.

Pronto

Pronto is a 3rd party messaging tool that integrates with Canvas. Pronto provides a fun and easy way to send messages that include text, photos, audio, and video without sharing phone numbers. It is like Discord for the classroom. Pronto is readily available in Canvas and also has a mobile app.

Qualtrics

Chico State has a Qualtrics license allowing faculty, state-side staff, and students to use Qualtrics for university-related business and courses. Using Qualtrics for personal, commercial, or other non-academic endeavors is not allowed.

SPSS

IBM SPSS Statistics is a comprehensive, easy-to-use set of predictive analytic tools for business users, analysts, and statistical programmers. For more than 40 years, organizations of all types have relied on SPSS Statistics to conduct research and make better decisions. The SPSS Site license gives the CSU the ability to install SPSS on individual machines and also the freedom to allow faculty and staff to install SPSS on their home machines.

VMWare

VMWare Fusion (macOS) or VMWare Workstation (Windows/Linux) is available to students for personal use.

Web Browsers

Various web browsers are available for installation. Microsoft Edge comes standard on PC devices; Macs come with Safari. 

Google Chrome is recommended on campus as it is compatible with campus sites and any required web extensions (such as Proctorio). Available for download here.

Mozilla Firefox is also available for installation. You can find the installation here. 

Zoom Meetings

Zoom is a video-calling service available for free to anyone with a campus account. When accessing your Chico State Zoom account, make sure to sign in via Single Sign-On (SSO).

Zoom can be installed on mobile devices via the system's App Store, or on a computer using this link.
