Teams and Channels

The Teams section in Microsoft Teams enables you to access and manage your teams and channels. Teams are groups of people collaborating on projects or shared interests, while channels are dedicated spaces within teams for specific topics or projects. Within each team, you can organize channels to facilitate focused discussions, share files, and integrate apps related to specific subjects.​

Viewing and Joining Teams

A. Access the Teams Section:

  • Click on the Teams icon in the left-hand navigation menu to view your list of teams.​

B. Browse or Search for Teams:

  • Scroll through the list to see available teams.​

  • Use the search box to find a specific team by name.​

C. Join or Create a Team:

  • At the top of the teams list, click on the "Create and join teams and channels" button.​

  • To join an existing team, enter a code if provided.​

  • To create a new team:​

    • Select "Create team".

    • Choose to create a team from scratch or select a template.

    • Follow the prompts to set up your team, including choosing a name, description, and privacy settings.

Managing Team Settings

A. Access Team Options:

  • Next to the team name, click on the ellipsis () to open the team options menu.​

B. Manage Team:

  • Select "Manage team" to access settings.​

C. Adjust Team Settings:

  • In the Settings tab, you can:​

    • Change the team picture.

    • Set member permissions, such as allowing members to create, update, or delete channels and tabs.

    • Manage guest permissions.

    • Configure @mentions settings.

    • Enable or disable fun features like emojis, GIFs, and memes.

Organizing and Collaborating in Channels

A. Access Channels within a Team:

  • Click on a team name to expand and view its channels.​

B. Create a New Channel:

  • Click on the ellipsis () next to the team name.​

  • Select "Create channel".​

  • Enter a channel name and an optional description.​

  • Choose the privacy level:​

    • Standard: Accessible to all team members.

    • Private: Accessible only to specific members.

    • Shared: Collaborate with people inside and outside your organization.

  • Click "Add" to create the channel.​

C. Collaborate within a Channel:

  • Click on the channel name to open it.​

  • Use the "Posts" tab to start or participate in conversations.​

  • Use the "Files" tab to share and manage documents.​

  • Add additional tabs for apps and services relevant to the channel's purpose.​

Managing Channel Settings and Notifications

A. Access Channel Options:

  • Next to the channel name, click on the ellipsis () to open the channel options menu.​

B. Manage Channel:

  • Select "Manage channel" to adjust settings.​

C. Adjust Channel Settings:

  • In the Settings section, you can:​

    • Edit the channel name and description.

    • Manage member permissions.

    • Configure @mentions settings.

    • Enable or disable fun features like emojis and memes.

D. Set Channel Notifications:

  • Select "Channel notifications" from the channel options menu.​

  • Choose your notification preferences for new posts and replies to stay informed about channel activity.​
