System Requirements

  • Hardware requirements
    • CPU: Intel/AMD 1.8GHz, 32-bit/64-bit processor
    • System Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Disk Space: Install 25MB | Logging 50 MB | Total 75 MB
    • Networking: 10/100/1000 Wired Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. *802.11b is not supported on campus wireless.
  • Operating System Requirements
    • Windows: 8.1, 10,11
    • A local user account with permission to install software and make system changes
    • Fully updated and patched operating system with auto updates enabled
    • Antivirus with real-time protection enabled and patching enabled.

  • Account Requirements
    • Current Faculty & Staff should meet the requirements
    • Students can access the OnDemand VPN but are not automatically granted access
      • If you have a course that requires a VPN connection, you will be granted rights based on course enrollment, no additional steps are required
      • If you would like to opt-in for access to the OnDemand VPN, please complete the request form [LOCATED HERE]

Download Instructions:

1.  Direct your browser of choice to https://vpn.csuchico.edu/

2.  Login using your Chico credentials

3.  Download the client appropriate to your operating system. In this case, we are working with a 64-bit install of Windows 10

4. Select "Save File" to download and save the file locally on your machine

5.  Make note of the download location as we will need to visit this location in the next section.


Installation:

1. Select the file we downloaded in the previous section

2. If presented with security or permissions prompt, select "Yes" or "Continue" or enter credentials as appropriate

3. Read and follow the onscreen prompts

4. When finished, click "Close"

 


Configuration:

After installation, the VPN client will need to be configured so that it knows where to connect.

1. In the lower right corner of the screen next to the system tray, you will now see a grayed-out globe. Hovering over it says "Not Connected".

2. You will need to enter the address where you will be connecting back to campus. In the field please enter the following

                     vpn.csuchico.edu

...and click "Connect"

3. Since you have not entered credentials before, you will be prompted for a username and password. Please enter your Chico user credentials and click "Sign In"

4. The system will now establish a connection (this may take a moment)

5. Provide the required information for the MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) verification.

6. If you entered your credentials correctly, you should now be connected to the VPN

How to manually connect:

1. In the system tray (usually located next to the clock in the lower right corner) click the globe-shaped Global Protect VPN Icon

 

2. Select the button for "Connect"

3.  The system will now establish a connection (this may take a moment)

4.  Provide the required information for the MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) verification.

5. When connected, the dialog box will go away. The System Tray will now show an earth-colored globe.

6. If you click on the earth-colored globe it will show the details of your connection.

How to disconnect:

1. In the system tray (usually located next to the clock in the lower right corner) click the globe-shaped Global Protect VPN Icon

2. Click the "disconnect" button
