Prices below are approximate. Price includes tax and shipping costs.

Chico State has selected Dell, Microsoft, and Apple as our desktop and laptop vendors. Our central Windows configuration system supports Microsoft drivers, and Dell offers tools to maintain firmware and driver updates. Apple devices are managed with Jamf. This setup allows us to quickly deploy "zero-day" patches across all workstations, enhancing security for University data and infrastructure.

Choosing another enterprise vendor like HP or Lenovo would require new management tools, increasing costs and complexity. Consumer-grade computers may lack centralized management tools, exposing the campus to vulnerabilities from outdated software. Standardizing on enterprise vendors also ensures comprehensive testing, consistent configurations, better warranty support, and lower total ownership costs.

If a Dell, Microsoft, or Apple device cannot meet the needs of a particular specialized use case, an exception for another vendor can be made. Please note that price alone will not justify an exception, since the initial purchase price is only one component of the overall total cost of the technology.

To support sustainability, ITSS occasionally offers used items that still meet campus standards. If you believe a used item could fulfill your requirements, please indicate this in your purchase ticket.

Warranty

Dell systems include a 3-year warranty (included in the prices below). Accidental Damage Protection is optional for all Dell laptops (not included in prices below).

Microsoft Surface systems come with a standard 1-year warranty; a 3 or 4-year Microsoft Complete warranty is optional, which adds Accidental Damage coverage. Microsoft Complete must be purchased within 45 days of device purchase.

All Apple systems come with a standard 1-year warranty; an AppleCare extended warranty is optional (2 or 3 years based upon the item purchased).

Time to Receive Purchases

Apple, Dell, and Microsoft purchases typically take four to six weeks to arrive on campus. Many factors impact the time of arrival (CPU or memory shortages, pre-built vs custom-built configurations, etc.).

Current Status - Wait times are trending back to pre-pandemic expectations:
