Ordering a New Device
Please review the standards below to see which device best fits your needs. If you’re unsure, include details about how the device will be used, and we’ll work with you to find the right option. Equipment outside these standards can still be ordered if needed, but must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, which may take longer.
When requesting a new device, consider if you will need additional accessories, such as:
- additional monitors
- docking stations
- webcams, sound bars, or other video/audio equipment
When you are ready, submit your request using the Purchase Computer Equipment service and include as much detail as possible, including equipment needs, intended user information, funding source, and any other details that IT Support Services may need to process your request.
IT Support Services will contact you to confirm your needs, request a quote, order the equipment, and deploy your device once it arrives. When you receive new equipment, you can submit a ticket to IT Support Services to have older devices transferred to a new user or e-wasted or surplussed.
Computer Purchase FAQs
All prices are approximate and include tax and shipping. Final costs may vary if device modifications are requested. Please note that a 5% cost recovery fee will also be applied to the purchase price.
Why Dell and Apple?
Chico State has selected Dell and Apple as our standard vendors for desktops and laptops. Standardizing on these enterprise-class vendors allows us to:
- Provide consistent configurations across campus
- Deploy security patches quickly and reliably
- Use vendor tools to manage firmware and driver updates
- Ensure warranty support and lower the total cost of ownership
Not all Dell or Apple products are listed here. If you would like something different, include a link in your request, and we will confirm whether it can be ordered or recommend a supported alternative.
Exceptions to Standard Equipment
If a Dell or Apple device cannot meet the needs of a specialized use case, an exception may be approved. Please note:
- Price alone will not justify an exception, since purchase cost is only one factor in total technology cost.
- Some exceptions may require an IT Procurement Review (ITPR).
- To avoid delays, share the device information and specifications with IT Support Services. We can then confirm whether it can be supported, recommend an equivalent model, or let you know if an ITPR is required.
Sustainability
All systems listed below are EPEAT Gold-rated, supporting Chico State’s climate action and sustainability goals. For more information on the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), visit www.epeat.net.
ITSS occasionally offers used items that still meet campus standards. If you believe a used item could fulfill your requirements, please indicate this in your purchase ticket.
Warranty
Dell systems include 3 years standard (Dell Pro Support). Accidental Damage Protection is available for laptops but is not included in base pricing.
Apple systems come with a 1 year standard warranty. AppleCare is available as an optional 2 or 3 year extension, depending on the device.
Delivery Timeline
Most computer orders take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive after the order is placed. Providing complete information in your purchase request helps us expedite the consultation and ordering process. Once your order arrives on campus, IT Support Services may still need time to prepare the device before it is ready for pickup or delivery. We will notify you as soon as your equipment is ready.
