When an instructor creates appointment slots using the Canvas Scheduler, you can sign up for a time directly from your Calendar. This is a simple way to book office hours, advising sessions, or project check-ins—without needing to send emails back and forth.

This article shows you how to view available time slots and sign up for an appointment through the Canvas Calendar.

Prerequisites

Before you can sign up for an appointment:

  • You must be enrolled in the Canvas course where the appointment is offered.
  • The course must be published and appear on your Dashboard.
  • The instructor must have created and published Scheduler appointments in the course Calendar.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To sign up for a Scheduler appointment in Canvas, do the following:

  1. From the global navigation menu, select Calendar.
  2. In the Calendar view, select the Find Appointments button on the right [1].
  3. Choose the correct course from the list and select Submit.
  4. Available appointment times will now appear on the Calendar. Select the time slot you want [2].
  5. Review the details in the pop-up window. If everything looks good, select Reserve to claim the appointment.

Now your appointment is booked. It will appear in your Canvas Calendar, and your instructor will see that you've signed up.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don’t see any appointments, make sure you selected the right course and that your instructor has published the time slots.
  • If the Find Appointments button is missing, check that the course is published and appears on your Dashboard.
  • To cancel or change your appointment, open the reserved time slot in the Calendar and select Unreserve.

If your instructor is using a third-party tool (like Zoom) for the meeting, check the appointment details for the correct link or location.
