Microsoft 365 Entitlements

Chico State provides different technology accounts and access based on each person’s relationship with the university. This is called an entitlement. Microsoft 365 licenses (A1, A3, and A5) determine the level of Microsoft 365 services available to you.

License Affiliations

  • A1 License: Retired staff and faculty who have requested to retain their email, Emeritus Faculty, and Chico State Enterprises (CSE) and Associated Students (AS) employees.*
  • A3 License: Active Students, Student Employees, and Recent Students (up to 2 years post-graduation).
  • A5 License: Active Instructors, Staff, and Faculty.
  • No License: Former Staff, Faculty, AS or CSE Employees, and Former Students (3+ years post-graduation).

*AS and CSE employees may request an A3 or A5 license through their department. Requests require department approval and associated costs.

Important Notes

  • Microsoft 365 license access depends on your current Chico State affiliation. When your status changes (for example, upon graduation or retirement), your license level will change automatically.
  • Students retain their A3 license for up to two years after graduation before eventual account deactivation.
  • Auxiliary employees (AS and CSE) can request an upgraded A3 or A5 license through their department; requests require approval and funding.
