Immediate Access allows students to use digital course materials, such as Cengage courseware, directly within Canvas from the first day of class. Instructors teaching courses that use Cengage materials can link these resources in their Canvas course so that students can access them seamlessly. This process ensures students receive required materials without needing separate purchase codes or additional setup. This guide explains how to add Cengage courseware to an Immediate Access course.
Prerequisites
To complete this guide the following must be met:
- Instructor access to an Immediate Access Canvas course
- Adopted courseware through the Wildcat Bookstore
- You need a Cengage account linked to your Chico State credentials
Step-by-Step Instructions
To add Cengage courseware to your Immediate Access course, do the following:
- In your Canvas course, go to Modules.
- In the module where you want to add the material, select the + icon.

- From the drop-down menu, select External Tool.
- Scroll down and select Cengage LTI Advantage.
- When prompted, sign in with your Cengage account.
Now the Cengage courseware is linked into your Canvas module, allowing students to access it as part of the Immediate Access program.
Troubleshooting

If you are unable to sign in to Cengage, confirm that you have an active Cengage account linked to your Chico State email.
