You can embed YouTube media in Canvas directly into a Module or anywhere in Canvas that uses the Rich Content Editor (a page, assignment, discussion, etc.).

To Embed Video into a Module Using YouTube
You can embed YouTube video directly into a Module as shown below.
- Click on Modules and select the plus sign + .
- In the drop-down menu, select External Tool.
- Select YouTube from the list.
- When prompted, copy-and-paste the video link into the search bar. Then select Embed.
Alternatively, you can search the topic of the video.
- Select Add Item. The video will appear in the list of content in your module. From there, you can drag-and-drop it into the location you desire and Publish it.
To Embed Video in the Canvas Content Editor Using YouTube
You can embed YouTube video anywhere that uses the Canvas Rich Content Editor (a page, assignment, discussion, etc.) as shown below. Although this article shows how an instructor would embed a YouTube video in an assignment, the overall process is essentially the same for both students and faculty using the Canvas Rich Content Editor.
- From the Canvas Content editor, (1) select the Apps icon , then (2) select YouTube. (If you don't see YouTube there, select View All first, then select YouTube from the list.)
- When prompted, copy-and-paste the video link into the search bar. Then select Embed.
Alternatively, you can search the topic of the video.
- Select Submit or Save on the page.
