Configuration:

After installation, the VPN client will need to be configured so that it knows where to connect.

  1. In the menu bar near the top right, you will now see the "Welcome to GlobalProtect" box.
  2. You will need to enter the address where you will be connecting back to campus. In the field please enter the following
    vpn.csuchico.edu
    ...and click "Connect".

  3. The system will now establish a connection (this may take a moment).

  4. After the connection is established, you will be prompted for a username and password. Please enter your Chico State user credentials and click "Sign In".

  5. Next, you will be redirected to a Web Page where you will need to complete the MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) verification.

  6. If you entered your credentials correctly, you should now be connected to the VPN.

If GlobalProtect hangs on "Connecting..." after installing on a Mac, please check to see if GlobalProtect has been set to allow or if a prompt shows it's been blocked. Go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy. Under the General tab, please see if Palo Alto Networks has been blocked. If so, please unblock the app. This may require you to enter your system administrator password.

How to manually connect:

  1. In the menu bar near the top right, click the globe-shaped Global Protect VPN Icon.
  2. Select the button for "Connect".
  3. When prompted, enter your Chico username and password and hit "Sign In".
  4. Please wait for a moment while the VPN establishes a connection.
  5. Next, you will be redirected to a Web Page where you will need to complete the MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) verification.
  6. You are now connected to the VPN!

How to disconnect:

  1. In the menu bar near the top right, click the globe-shaped Global Protect VPN Icon.
  2. Click the three parallel lines in the upper right corner of the window.
  3. Select "Disable".
  4. You are now disconnected from the VPN.

Basic Troubleshooting:

Check that you already have a connection to the Internet.

If you are on campus, check that you are connected to the eduroam WiFi network.

GlobalProtect will NOT work while connected to the csuchico WiFi network.

Generate a log file:

A log file contains a record of various system settings and properties, along with a log of connection attempts. During the process of troubleshooting, you may be asked by the ITSS Support Staff to generate a log file for more advanced issues.

To generate a log file
1. Click the small Globe icon in the system menu at the top of the screen.
2. Select the 3 horizontal bars in the top right of the GlobalProtect window.
3. From the new menu, select "Settings".
4. Under GlobalProtect Settings, select the "Troubleshooting" tab.
5. Click the button for "Collect Logs" on the right.
6. After the process completes, select "Open Folder" on the right.

The file "GlobalProtectLogs.tgz" should be highlighted, this is the file you will need to provide for additional assistance.
