Kaltura is Chico State's all-in-one video solution, similar to YouTube, that lets students, faculty, and staff watch and upload videos. Whether you're an instructor looking to provide supplementary material or a student aiming to submit assignments in video format, this guide walks you through the necessary steps to upload a video to Kaltura from your computer.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have:
- A stable internet connection.
- The video file you wish to upload.
Step-by-Step Instructions
To upload a Kaltura video from your computer, do the following:
- Log in to media.csuchico.edu OR log in to Canvas and navigate to My Media.
- Select Add New [1] and then choose Media Upload [2] from the dropdown menu.
- Click Choose a file to upload, then select your video file from your computer. You can also drag and drop the file into the designated area.
- While the video is uploading, fill out the Title, Description, and any relevant Tags to make your video easier to find and categorize.
- Once the upload is complete, select Save to finalize the details.
- Your video will now undergo processing. Once processing is complete, it will be available in your Kaltura Media Gallery. You can then Publish it to specific courses, share it as needed, or embed it within course materials.
Troubleshooting
- Upload Stalls: If your upload seems to be taking longer than expected, check your internet connection and try refreshing the page. Large files can take a significant amount of time, depending on your connection speed.
- File Type Errors: Ensure your video file meets the format and size requirements. If you encounter an error, convert your file to an accepted format and try uploading again.
- Processing Delays: Videos, especially those in high definition, can take a while to process (up to a few hours). If your video isn’t available immediately, give it some time. If it's still not processed after 24 hours, contact Learning Technology Services.
