A student is repeating a class and cannot take a Kaltura video quiz because previous attempt results are still associated with the quiz. When the student tries to access the quiz, they are blocked from submitting a new attempt. Because the new attempt cannot be completed, the grade is not sent back to Canvas. This impacts students who are re-enrolled in the same course (or retaking the same video quiz) and instructors who need current grades to sync to the Canvas gradebook.
Environment
This article applies to you if all of the following are true:
- You are viewing a video quiz in Canvas and see quiz results that appear to be from a prior time you took the course
- The video quiz is accessed through Kaltura (for example, via My Media)
- The results you see are tied to a previous attempt/enrollment and should not be included in the current course repeat
Solution
To fix video quiz results from a previous class attempt still appearing, follow these steps:
- If you are a student, contact your instructor and ask them to delete your old video quiz results from the prior attempt.
- If you are an instructor, from the Canvas global navigation, open My Media.
- Locate the relevant video quiz entry.
- Open Analytics for the video.
- Open the Quiz Users tab.
- Find the affected student.
- Select Delete next to the student’s old quiz results.
After the old quiz results are deleted, the student’s prior-attempt results should no longer appear, and you can review current-attempt results without the previous data causing confusion.
Root Cause
When a student’s prior Kaltura video quiz results remain tied to the same quiz, Kaltura treats the student as already having completed the quiz (or having existing attempt data). This prevents a new attempt from being started and therefore prevents a new score from being generated and sent back to Canvas.
