I received an Invite but Cannot Log in to ChatGPT Edu

After receiving an invitation to ChatGPT Edu, some users may be unable to log in. This issue primarily affects users who had a pre-existing ChatGPT account using their @csuchico.edu email address. The login attempt may fail with an error message or prevent access to ChatGPT Edu.

Environment

This article is relevant to you if:

  • You were invited to use ChatGPT Edu at Chico State.
  • You had a pre-existing ChatGPT account registered with your @csuchico.edu email.
  • You are experiencing login issues after receiving your invitation.

Solution

To regain access to ChatGPT Edu, follow these steps:

  1. Wait several hours after receiving your invitation. Activation can take time, and access may not be immediate.
  2. Try logging in again using your @csuchico.edu email address. Make sure to select Chico SSO if prompted.
  3. If more than 24 hours have passed and you still cannot log in, submit a ChatGPT Edu Support / Feedback ticket.

Root Cause

When a user already has a personal ChatGPT account with their @csuchico.edu email address, the transition to ChatGPT Edu may temporarily revoke access. This delay occurs because the system needs time to update account permissions and integrate the new access settings.
