Activate a Poll Activity in Poll Everywhere

Introduction

Activation is a key concept in Poll Everywhere that allows presenters to control which activity is available for audience participation. When a presenter activates an activity, it becomes accessible via their response page (e.g., PollEv.com/your-username), allowing participants to submit responses online. If text messaging is enabled, participants can also respond via text.

A single presenter can only have one active activity at a time. This ensures presenters have control over which activity is open for responses. However, responses can still be submitted through direct response links regardless of activation status.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • Log in to https://www.polleverywhere.com/ 
  • The activity you want to activate has been created in your My Activities page.
  • You are familiar with Present mode or the Poll Everywhere web interface.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Activating an Activity Slide

The easiest way to activate an activity is by displaying it in Present mode:

  1. Open Poll Everywhere and navigate to the activity you want to present.
  2. Select Present to display the activity in full-screen mode. This automatically activates the activity and allows participants to respond.
  3. If you prefer not to enter full-screen mode, select the Activate button instead. This keeps the activity active while remaining on the current screen.

Note: Surveys can also be activated using the Present or Activate buttons.

To deactivate an activity:

  • Select the Activate button again to turn it off.
  • Exiting Present mode will automatically deactivate the activity.

Activating an Activity from the My Activities Page

To activate an activity without presenting:

  1. Go to your My Activities page.
  2. Locate the activity you want to activate.
  3. Select the Activate icon next to the activity’s title. The icon will turn green, indicating activation.

  • Why is my activity not accepting responses?
    • Ensure that the activity is activated by checking the My Activities page. If the Activate icon is not green, select it to activate the activity.
  • Can multiple activities be active at the same time?
    • No, only one activity can be activated at a time per presenter account.
  • Can participants respond if the activity is not activated?
    • Yes, responses can still be submitted through direct response links, even if the activity is not currently active.
