Upgrading Your MacOS Version on Campus-Managed Macs

Quick Links: | Time Requirements | Upgrading Your Device

MacOS Ventura (MacOS 13.x.x) will reach its end of life in Late 2025. Before this time, you must upgrade your Chico State device to a supported MacOS version.

If your device is ineligible for an upgrade, please contact IT Support Services to discuss your options.

Time Requirement

The upgrade may take up to 2 hours to complete and will be done in two parts:

Downloading & Installing: up to 30 minutes. This is done in the background and your device is still usable at this time.

Restarting & Upgrading: up to 1.5 hours. Your device will be unusable at this time

We recommend starting the Downloading & Installing process an hour or so before the end of your workday (4 pm) so that the Restarting & Upgrading process is ready but the end of your day (5 pm). This would have the least amount of impact on your regular day-to-day work.

Upgrading Your Device

The following steps will guide you through an in-place upgrade, which should not impact any of your data or installed software. However, we recommend backing up any important files beforehand to prevent potential data loss.

If you'd prefer to have your device wiped and reimaged, please submit a support ticket.

Check for Updates

  1. Open the Apple Menu in the top left corner and go to System Preferences (or System Settings depending on your current MacOS version).
