Enabling Zoom's AI Companion Features

Quick Links: | Prerequisites | Instructions | Troubleshooting |

Zoom's AI Companion offers several features that can enhance meeting efficiency and engagement, including the ability to generate meeting summaries and allow participants to ask questions in real-time. These settings are off by default for the Chico State campus. If you want to enable them, you can choose to do so.

The following are instructions for enabling Zoom's AI Companion for meetings you host using your Chico State Zoom account.

Prerequisites

  • Access to a Chico State Zoom account.
  • Familiarity Zoom's settings.
  • Ensure that you have host privileges for the meetings where you intend to use AI Companion features.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To enable one or more AI Companion features in Zoom:

  1. Sign in to your Chico State Zoom account on the Zoom web portal.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Settings.
  3. Navigate to the AI Companion tab.
  4. Select any or all of the following AI Companion features to enable:
    • Allow users to ask AI Companion questions about the meeting: Allow hosts and invited participants to ask questions to AI Companion during a meeting. Questions are answered based on the conversation transcript.
    • Meeting summary with AI Companion: As a host, you can generate a summary. Summaries are sent after the meeting has ended based on the share options.
    • Smart Recording: Cloud recordings can have recording highlights, summary and smart chapters, next steps, and meeting coach. Note: these chapters and highlights do not transfer to Kaltura.
    • Use screen share content with OCR: Indicate whether you want to use screen share content with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to generate AI Companion results. OCR converts images of text screen shared during a meeting into machine-readable text. This can make the AI companion more aware of the content on a shared screen.
    • Use meeting chat messages: Use in-meeting chat messages, excluding direct messages, to provide additional context to AI Companion features.

Now your AI Companion settings are active, enabling enhanced meeting management and interaction in your Zoom-hosted sessions. These settings apply to all meetings by default. You can adjust them for individual meetings by modifying the settings within the meeting itself.

Tips:

  • Privacy: Do not store or record sensitive information like social security numbers, student education records, or medical records.
  • Accuracy: Always review the accuracy of AI-generated summaries, in-meeting responses, and smart recording chapters, and edit them if necessary.
  • Audience: Consider the audience: Be aware of who will see meeting summaries.

Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications-like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard and reactions) to train Zoom’s or its third-party artificial intelligence models.
