Why You Were Assigned Training
Chico State employees, including staff, faculty, and student employees, are required to complete certain trainings in CSULearn to meet federal, state, CSU, and Chico State requirements.
Training may be assigned based on:
- employee type
- job code
- department
- campus requirements
- CSU system-wide requirements
- legal or regulatory requirements
Some trainings are assigned to all employees, while others are based on your role or department. In some cases, training may also be assigned manually in coordination with campus subject matter experts.

Why Training Must Be Retaken
You may receive a message saying a training has expired even if you completed it before. This is normal.
Many compliance trainings must be renewed, usually every one or two years. CSULearn keeps your previous completion on record, but once that completion expires, you must take the training again to stay current.
This means:
- earlier completion still counts as part of your history
- the system may still show a previous completion date
- you are still required to complete the current version once the earlier certification expires
If your training email includes a link to the course:
- Open the training link in the email.
- Select Register Again.
- Select Start.
If the course still shows 100% complete or Attended, that usually refers to your earlier completion, not your current requirement.
Required Title IX and Harassment Training
Some required trainings cover related topics, but are not the same course.
Employees may be assigned separate training for:
- Gender Equity and Title IX
- Discrimination and Harassment Prevention for Non-Supervisors
- Discrimination and Harassment Prevention for Supervisors
These requirements are separate and must be completed individually when assigned.
Depending on your role, you may be required to complete more than one of these trainings.
Retired, FERP, or Leave Status
Training assignments are based on your status in PeopleSoft. If your employee or payroll status is still listed as active, you may continue receiving assigned training.
- Retired employees: If you believe you should no longer be active, contact your HR liaison or HR Payroll so your status can be updated to inactive. Once your status is changed, current and future training assignments will be removed from CSULearn automatically.
- FERP faculty: FERP faculty are required to complete compliance training during active teaching semesters. You may ignore reminder emails and deadlines while you are not teaching, then complete the training during the first week you return to teaching.
- CSE-affiliated employees: Even if you are retired from a stateside position, you may still have an active Chico State Enterprises affiliation. That affiliation may still require assigned training. If you are no longer working with Chico State Enterprises, contact CSE HR to request removal of the affiliation. Removing that affiliation will deactivate your CSULearn account and stop future training assignments.
