If you are experiencing issues in Box Drive (i.e. icons are missing in the Box Drive folders) make sure that you are using the most current version. Follow this link to learn how to update Box Drive.
If the issues persist, you may want to reset Box Drive. Logging out of the client will completely remove all traces of your Box Drive usage from your machine and also enables you to log in again as a "new user." However, with Box Drive your files are automatically uploaded to your Box account in the cloud and will still be there after clearing Box Drive by logging out.
NOTE: Logging out of Box Drive deletes all of the downloaded content you had marked for offline and returns it to an online-only state. You will have to repeat the process of marking folders for offline.
To log out of Box Drive, follow these steps:
Step 1. Check your unsynced files folder for any unsaved files before proceeding. Type or copy/paste “%localappdata%\box\box\unsyncedfiles” (without the quotation marks) into the search bar located in the Windows Start menu.
NOTE: Windows 10 users will not have a search bar if Cortana is hidden but they can still type the path or copy/paste it using “CTRL+V” while the Windows Start Menu is open even though a search bar is not present.
- If there are any files in this folder they are most likely not backed up in the cloud. Move these to your desktop before proceeding
- Don't worry about any .ini Configuration Settings files that may appear. These are system settings and not user data.
Step 2. Log out of Box Drive by locating the Box icon on the Windows Task bar, right clicking on it and selecting "Log out."
a. Right click on the Box application and select "Log out.”
Box Drive is now reset and all data has been cleared.
Note: Box Drive may be slower than normal for the first day after reset as the indexing and cache are rebuilt.
Step 4. Re-launch Box Drive through the Windows Start menu. You will be required to log in.
