When attempting to create a new GPT in ChatGPT Edu, the page crashes with an error message stating "Content failed to load." This prevents users from proceeding with the setup. The issue persists across regular browsing sessions but does not occur in an Incognito window.

Environment
This article is relevant to you if:
- You are using ChatGPT Edu to create a custom GPT.
- You encounter the error "failed to load content" while filling out the GPT details.
- You have an active content blocking extension installed in your browser (e.g., uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, or others).
Solution
To fix the issue and successfully create a new GPT, follow these steps:
-
Disable your ad-blocker extension:
- In Chrome, select the Extensions icon (puzzle piece) in the top-right corner, then toggle off the ad-blocker.
- In Firefox, go to Add-ons and themes from the menu, find your ad-blocker, and disable it.
- In Edge, select Extensions, locate the ad-blocker, and disable it.
-
Alternatively, allowlist ChatGPT to prevent blocking its content:
- Open your ad-blocker’s settings.
- Locate the option to allowlist or exclude specific websites.
- Add
chat.openai.com
and chatgpt.com
to the allowlist.
-
Refresh the ChatGPT Edu page and try creating the GPT again.
Now, the GPT creation process should work without any errors.
Root Cause
When an ad-blocker extension is enabled, it may block essential scripts or content required for the GPT creation process. This results in the "Content failed to load" error. Using an Incognito window bypasses extensions by default, allowing the page to function correctly. Disabling the ad-blocker or allowlisting ChatGPT resolves the issue.
