Prepare Your Media for the Shared Repository
The Kaltura Shared Repository allows faculty to share media with other instructors within discipline-based categories. Media added to the Shared Repository can be embedded in Canvas courses without restriction.
You retain ownership of any media you contribute and can manage or remove it at any time. However, unpublishing media does not remove it from courses where it has already been embedded.
Before adding media to the Shared Repository, ensure:
- You have a Canvas instructor role.
- The media is uploaded to My Media in Canvas.
- You are prepared to assign appropriate discipline-based metadata.
Publish Media to the Shared Repository
- In Canvas Global Navigation, select My Media.
- Locate the media you want to share and select Edit.
- Select Click to add required metadata for shared repository.
- Assign the media to one or more discipline-based filters.
- Select Save.
- Select the Publish tab.
- Change the publishing status to Published.
- Select Shared Repository from the list of publishing destinations.
- Select Save to confirm.
Your media is now available in the Shared Repository for other faculty in your discipline.
Troubleshoot Shared Repository Issues
- If you do not see the Shared Repository option, confirm the media is set to Published rather than Private and that required metadata has been assigned.
- If you cannot locate your media in My Media, confirm that the upload completed successfully, processing has finished, and you have permission to edit and publish the media.
- Metadata is required for sharing; ensure you complete the metadata step before publishing.
