Grading assignments in Gradescope allows you to efficiently review submissions, create rubrics, and provide feedback. Gradescope's features include batch grading for similar responses, customizable rubrics, and built-in annotation tools for marking submissions. This guide will cover the steps involved in accessing and grading submissions, creating rubrics, batch grading, and providing feedback.
Prerequisites
- Access to a Gradescope course
- An active assignment with student submissions
- Instructor or TA permissions within Gradescope
Step-by-Step Instructions
To start grading, do the following:
- From Canvas, open your course. Select Gradescope from the course navigation.
- From your Gradescope course, select the assignment you wish to grade.
- Select Grade Submissions to open the grading interface.
To grade multiple similar answers at once:
- Select on Group Similar Answers within the grading interface.
- Review the grouped answers, and apply rubric items across similar responses to save time and ensure consistency.
To give feedback on submissions:
- Use the built-in annotation tools to mark up student submissions directly.
- Provide feedback either by writing comments directly on the submission or adding them within the grading interface comment box.
Troubleshooting
- If the Grade Submissions button is not visible, ensure that the assignment has been published and that there are student submissions to grade.
- If rubric items are not applying properly, check that each rubric item has point values and descriptions assigned.
