Content Contributor Guide

This guide will equip Content Contributors with the knowledge to execute modifications and reviews of the university site and maintain a cohesive and unified online platform. Content Contributors should understand the “why” of their role and how they can support their department and Web Services. Supplementary materials and information include communication guidance and timeline of training and role adoptions.

Site Strategy

How did this journey start? Chico State initiated a web project to enhance the University's long-term success and enrollment growth. This strategy involves a website design to align with the university brand and ensure quality assurance through site-slimming and uniformity. The initiative addresses existing issues such as navigation difficulties, outdated Google search results, inconsistencies across websites, and unprofessional-looking pages, all of which undermine the university's brand image and effectiveness in attracting prospective students and serving current stakeholders. 

How This Role Supports the Site Strategy

A Content Contributor is the core resource for all areas to communicate with online audiences effectively and increase and maintain the accuracy and consistency of the www.csuchico.edu website. This role involves keeping the total size of content down to a minimum to ensure the sustainability of our content quality. Content Contributors will be afforded extensive training, guidance, and support to build skills that support the strategy.  

Our commitment to supporting student enrollment and retention is central to Chico State’s site strategy, which means content will be: 

  • easy to understand 
  • organized thoughtfully 
  • clear of purpose 

Main Duties

  1. Collaborate closely with the website team 
  2. Vet submissions of online material 
  3. Perform regular reviews of website content in assigned domain 
  4. Follow accessibility and usability best practices 

Content Contributors and Web Services Partnership

Web Services and Content Contributors will collaborate closely during the site design and continuation of site modifications.

Role Adoption Timeline

The Content Contributor training and adoption is broken into 4 sections. 

Approval and Planning 

  • Welcome email with supporting documentation is sent. 
  • Content Contributor Questionnaire is completed. 

Web Training - Phase 1

  • Role and expectations are reviewed.
  • Methods of communication are reviewed.
  • Photo selection, web writing, and web accessibility training assignments are reviewed.

Web Training - Phase 2

  • Web Services workflows are introduced. 
  • Component definitions are reviewed.
  • Cascade login and dashboard are reviewed.
  • Practice page is built.
  • Cascade workflow is reviewed and submitted.

End-of-Onboarding Conclusion 

  • Q&A is conducted 
  • Monthly Check-Ins are scheduled.
