Overview of Chico State accounts
When you become a student, employee, or affiliated user at Chico State, you are provided with accounts that allow you to access university systems, complete coursework, and perform job responsibilities.
Accounts are typically created when your relationship with the university begins and are disabled or deleted after you leave.
Student accounts and lifecycle
Students are provided access to the following systems:
- Microsoft 365 (email and OneDrive)
- Active Directory
- Chico State Portal
- Google Workspace
- Canvas
- Salesforce Community
- Duo Multifactor Authentication
- Eduroam wireless
- Student Center (PeopleSoft)
Account timing:
- Some accounts are created when an application is submitted
- Remaining accounts are created when the student is activated for the term
After leaving Chico State:
- Accounts are disabled after 2 years of no active enrollment (you cannot log in, but data still exists)
- Accounts are permanently deleted after 3 years
Employee accounts and lifecycle
Faculty, staff, and auxiliary employees are provided access to:
- Microsoft 365 (email and OneDrive)
- Active Directory
- Chico State Portal
- Google Workspace
- Canvas
- Box
- Duo Multifactor Authentication
- Eduroam wireless
- PeopleSoft
Additional systems (such as Salesforce) may be provided based on job role.
Account timing:
- Accounts are created on or before the employee's start date
After leaving Chico State:
- Accounts are disabled immediately upon separation
- Accounts are typically deleted approximately 1 year after separation
Account descriptions
Microsoft 365
Provides your Chico State email and access to tools such as Outlook and OneDrive. This is Chico State’s official method of communication.

Allows you to log in to Chico State–managed computers and access certain resources, including your Chico State email.
If you cannot sign in or believe your account may be locked, contact IT Support Services.
Chico State Portal
Provides a personalized view of Chico State systems, services, and important links.

Google Workspace
Provides access to Google tools such as Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Calendar for Chico State coursework and collaboration.

Chico State’s learning management system (LMS), used to access course materials, submit assignments, and communicate with instructors.

Salesforce Community
Allows Chico State students to schedule advising appointments and register for campus events.
Duo
Provides Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to protect your Chico State account by requiring an additional verification step during login.

Chico State’s administrative system used for academic, financial, and employee information.
- Students: register for classes, view financial aid, and manage records
- Employees: manage HR, payroll, and financial systems
