Adopting course materials electronically in Canvas streamlines the process for faculty to select and manage resources for their courses. This guide provides a step-by-step method for selecting new materials, reusing previous selections, and managing course material adoption through the Follett Discover tool within Canvas. Understanding this process ensures faculty can efficiently prepare their courses with the required, recommended, or optional materials for their students.

Step-by-Step Instructions
To adopt course materials in Canvas, do the following:
- Log into Canvas.
- Select Account from the top of the Global Navigation.
- Choose Follett Discover.
- Select the term for which you are adopting materials from the dropdown menu.
- Search for your course materials, or indicate if you're not adopting any materials or are using only Open Educational Resources (OER) content.
- Choose your course materials and pick View Details.
- For each material, indicate whether it is required, recommended, or optional.
- Select Adopt to finalize your selection.
- You will receive a confirmation that your course materials have been adopted.
Additional options
If nothing in the bookstore's catalog matches your requirements, you can manually enter materials. You can also copy your materials from a previous term:
- From the main Follett Discover page, select your course name.
- Scroll down to see additional options and select one of the options.
Troubleshooting
- Can't login to Follett Discover: Check that you're assigned to teach a class in a future term. If issues persist, contact support.
- No materials found: Ensure you've entered the correct search criteria or manually enter the materials' details.
- Previous adoptions not showing: Check that you are looking at the correct term and that the previous course adoptions were completed successfully. If issues persist, contact support.
