Accessing Microsoft Office 365 email using Thunderbird

The Outlook Desktop Apps and Office 365 Web Apps are the recommended and supported email clients for campus email. Thunderbird can work with campus email with limited features and support.

Configuring Thunderbird

  1. Open the Thunderbird application on your device
  2. Select "Setup Another Account" and then "email"
    • You may need to instead go to File > New > Existing Mail Account
  3. On the setup window, enter:
    • Your full name
    • Email Address (username@csuchico.edu)
    • Chico State password
  4. Click "Continue" You should receive a notice that says "Configuration found".
  5. Under "Available Configurations", Select "Exchange/Office365". You may get a message to Install the Owl Plug-in. Click "Install".

  6. Click done.  
    Enter account information; Choose Exchange configuration
  7. You will be prompted to approve the sign-in via Duo. 
  8. The next page should say "Account successfully created". Click "Finish" and your account should now be set up.
