Overview
When a webpage is unpublished or deleted from a Chico State website built in Cascade, the page may still appear in Google search results. This happens because Google's index hasn't updated yet. These lingering links can lead to "404 Not Found" errors, which can confuse users and reduce search credibility.
To resolve this, you can request that Google remove or refresh the outdated content.
Remove a Link
- Go to the Google Removals Tool.
- Sign in using a Google account (it does not need to be your Chico State email).
- Click New Request.
- Enter the full URL of the page that has been deleted or unpublished (e.g.,
https://www.csuchico.edu/your-page
).
- Click Submit Request.
Additional Notes
- It may take several days for Google to process and reflect the removal request.
- This tool only removes the result from search; it does not delete content from your website or archive.
- If the content is still live on your website, Google may deny the request.
