Box Account Requirements and Eligibility
Box uses Chico State Outlook (M365) email addresses to authenticate users. While all faculty, staff, student employees, and students have M365 email accounts, not all accounts get Box access.
- Box access is granted automatically to faculty, staff, student employees, Associated Students (AS) employees, and CSE employees.
- These accounts are automatically deactivated when the employee separates from their work position.
- Volunteers may request Box accounts if they have an approved M365 account and authorization from an appropriate administrator in their department.
Student Box Access
Students who are not student employees are not provisioned Box accounts. However, some students in approved classes may receive temporary Box access, which ends when class enrollment ends.
Generic Account Access
For security reasons, generic accounts are not provisioned Box accounts.
Student Employee Box Access
Student employees automatically receive Box access if their employment record in PeopleSoft is active and correctly associated with their Chico State account.
If Box access is missing, contact IT Support Services to verify their affiliation and O365 status.
Troubleshooting Login Issues
If a student employee cannot log in to Box, follow these steps:
- Verify that the student employee’s record in PeopleSoft shows their current active employment on campus.
- Ensure they are logging in as username@csuchico.edu.
- If they have never used Box or their O365 email before, have them reset their password:
- Log in to the Portal.
- Click Account Center.
- Click My Password in the upper right corner.
- Enter a new password.
- Wait five minutes, then try logging into Box again.
- If the student employee still has issues, contact IT Support Services (ITSS) to confirm:
- Their O365 account is active.
- Their Box account is active.
- Their Account Center record lists the appropriate affiliations.
