Duo Mobile Update and Impact Overview

Overview of the Duo Mobile Update

Beginning February 2, 2026, older versions of the Duo Mobile application will no longer be supported for Chico State Duo Multifactor Authentication (MFA). Unsupported versions will no longer receive security updates and may fail during authentication.

To verify your Duo Mobile app version, open Duo Mobile, select the menu in the top left, and locate the version at the bottom of the screen.

Impact of Unsupported Duo Mobile Versions

After the deadline, unsupported versions of the Duo Mobile app will stop receiving Duo Push notifications. Users may be unable to approve login attempts and could lose access to Chico State systems.

Affected systems include, but are not limited to:

  • Chico State Portal
  • Canvas
  • Chico State Email (Outlook)
  • GlobalProtect VPN
  • Other protected campus services

If Duo Mobile is not updated to 4.85.0 or later before February 2, then users will no longer receive a Duo Push when accessing applications. They will still be able to open the Duo Mobile app and generate passcodes for Chico State accounts.

Required Actions and Supported Options

Updating the Duo Mobile App

Users should update the Duo Mobile app as soon as possible to avoid disruption.

  1. Open the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Search for Duo Mobile.
  3. Select Update.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the update.

To verify your Duo Mobile app version, open Duo Mobile, select Settings, and review the App Version. Versions earlier than 4.85 must be updated.

Device Requirements

To support the current version of Duo Mobile, devices must meet the following minimum operating system requirements:

  • Apple devices: iOS 16.0 or newer
  • Android devices: Android 12 or newer

Alternative Authentication Options

If a primary device cannot be updated or does not meet requirements, users must configure an alternative authentication method:

  • Add a compatible smartphone or tablet.
  • Request a Duo token from ITSS.
  • Use a supported security key (not provided by ITSS).

If Duo Mobile is updated successfully and functions during login, no further action is required.
