No Share Button in NotebookLM

Quick Links: | Environment | Solution | Root Cause |

When using NotebookLM in a web browser, the Share button that normally appears in the upper-right corner is missing. Without this control, you cannot generate a sharing link or invite collaborators to your notebook. The issue most often affects people who use a browser-based ad-blocking extension and occurs regardless of operating system.

Environment

This article is relevant to you if:

  • You are accessing NotebookLM through a desktop web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.).

  • An ad-blocking extension such as uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, or Ghostery is active.

  • The extension is running with its default or “Recommended” filter lists enabled.

Solution

To fix the missing Share button, do the following:

  1. From your browser toolbar, select your ad-blocker’s icon.
  2. In the extension’s pop-up, choose Disable on this site (wording varies) or add notebooklm.google.com to the extension’s allowlist.
  3. Reload the NotebookLM tab. The Share button should now be visible in the upper-right corner.

Now you can generate share links or invite collaborators directly from NotebookLM.

Root Cause

When certain ad-blocking filter lists load, they mistakenly hide NotebookLM’s Share button element because its HTML class name matches common ad-tracking patterns. Disabling or allow-listing NotebookLM prevents the filter from applying, allowing the button to render normally.
