Export and Download Google Data

Quick Links: | Prerequisites | Instructions | Troubleshooting |

Google Takeout allows you to export and download data from Google services such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Calendar. This is useful for keeping personal backups or moving data to another service. Downloading your data does not delete it from Google’s servers.

Prerequisites

  • A Chico State Google account (@csuchico.edu)

Step-by-Step Instructions

To export your data from your Chico State Google account using Google Takeout, do the following:

Select Data to Export

  1. Go to Google Takeout.
  2. Sign in with your Chico State account if prompted.
  3. Select the Google services you want to export data from (e.g., Drive, Gmail, Calendar).
  4. To customize your export, select the down arrow next to each product.

Choose Export Settings

  1. Select Next.
  2. Choose the file type (ZIP is recommended).

Choose Delivery Method

  1. Under Delivery method, select Send download link via email.
  2. Select Create archive.

Download Your Archive

  1. Wait for an email from Google with your download link.
  2. Open the email and select Download archive.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and save the file.

Note that while small exports complete within minutes, large exports may take several hours or days. Most users typically receive the archive on the same day, but be patient if it takes longer.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don’t receive an email, check your spam folder.
  • If the archive fails to download, try again later or split the export into smaller parts.
  • Ensure you have enough storage space for the downloaded file.
