Introduction
All Chico State faculty and students have free access to Microsoft 365, including 1TB of storage in OneDrive. Instructors can use OneDrive in Canvas assignments in two main ways:
- Templated assignments where each student receives their own copy of a file to complete.
- File submission from OneDrive for traditional assignments where students upload their own work.
This integration makes it easier to share files and streamline assignment submissions.
Using OneDrive in Canvas Assignments
Create a Templated OneDrive Assignment
- In your Canvas course, go to Assignments.
- Select + Assignment.
- Under Submission Type, choose External Tool.
- Select Find, then choose OneDrive.
- Pick the template file you want to distribute and select Attach.
- Complete the assignment details and select Save or Save & Publish.
Now, each student will receive their own copy of the file.
Allow Students to Submit a OneDrive File to a Regular Assignment
- In your Canvas course, go to Assignments.
- Select + Assignment.
- Under Submission Type, choose Online, then check File Upload.
- Complete the assignment details and select Save or Save & Publish.
Students will now be able to submit files from their OneDrive account.
Troubleshooting
- If students cannot submit from OneDrive, confirm they are logged into their Microsoft account and that OneDrive is enabled in your course.
