Enabling or Creating Canvas Grading Scheme

A grade scheme is a way of organizing student performance on grade items into levels of achievement. Grade schemes should match your syllabus and the letter grades that correspond to Faculty Center in PeopleSoft. Each achievement level has its own range, and a grade (e.g., A, A-, B+). Once the scheme is applied, the letter grade appears after the numerical grade in the total column in the Canvas gradebook.

Enabling Canvas Grade Schemes

Below are the steps to ensure your grading scheme is compatible with importing grades to PeopleSoft.

  • From the left course navigation menu, click on Settings.
  • From the Course Details tab at the top, scroll down and select the Enable course grading scheme checkbox.
  • Select “Default Chico State Grading Scheme”.
  • Select 'Update Course Details' to save your changes.

  3. Edit existing grading schemes by selecting the pencil icon.
  4. You cannot edit or delete the Default Chico State Grading Scheme, but you can edit or delete your custom grading schemes.

  6. If you make changes to your Grading Scheme selection, be sure to select 'Update Course Details' to save your changes.
