There are two ways to limit user access to a particular service in the Service Catalog:
Limit access to an entire service category
By default, a service category will inherit the permissions of its parent category. In the Client Portal, navigate to the service category in question; users with the appropriate permissions will see a small pencil icon for editing the category.
-
Edit the category and choose the Permission tab.
-
Uncheck the "Inherit Permissions" to set different permissions than the parent category.
-
Uncheck "Public" if the category will not be available to all users of the system.
-
User groups can now be selected to control access. Select the appropriate option to either allow only the selected user groups (whitelist) or allow everyone except the selected user groups (blacklist).
Note: Editing the category permissions is limited to certain user roles, so if you do not see the icon, please check with your manager.
Limit access to a single service
By default, a service will inherit the permissions of the category it is contained within. In the Client Portal, navigate to the service in question; users with the appropriate permissions will see a button labeled "Edit Service".
- Edit the service and choose the Permission tab.
- Uncheck the "Inherit Permissions" to set different permissions than the container category.
- Uncheck "Public" if the service will not be available to all users of the system.
- User groups can now be selected to control access. Select the appropriate option to either allow only the selected user groups (whitelist), or allow everyone except the selected user groups (blacklist).
Note: Editing the service permissions is limited to the service manager (set in TeamDynamix) and certain user roles, so if you do not see the icon, please check with your manager.
