Understand WinSCP and FTP Access
WinSCP is an SFTP client that can be configured to transfer files to YourWeb.
If you are transferring files to your own space on the web server, or setting up access for someone else, you will first need to retrieve FTP credentials from cPanel.
Get FTP Credentials from cPanel
- Go to yourweb.csuchico.edu and log in.
- Use the Search Box to search for “FTP” or select FTP Accounts under the Files section.
- Choose one of the following:
- Use the default FTP account (password provided in your welcome email)
- Create a new FTP account using the Add FTP Account form
- If creating a new account:
- Enter a username and password
- Select or update the directory access as needed
- Select Create FTP Account
Default FTP account details:
- FTP Username: yourusername@yourusername.yourweb.csuchico.edu
- FTP Server: ftp.yourusername.yourweb.csuchico.edu
- Port: 21
Connect to YourWeb Using WinSCP
- Open WinSCP.
- Enter your FTP credentials:
- Host name (FTP server)
- User name
- Port number (21)
- Leave the password field blank if you want to be prompted each time for security.
- Select Save, then select Login.
