Teams and Channels

The Teams section in Microsoft Teams allows you to access and manage your teams and channels. You can view and join teams, create new teams, and manage team settings. Within each team, you can access and organize channels, which are dedicated spaces for conversations, files, and apps related to specific topics or projects. You can also use the Teams section to collaborate with your colleagues in real-time, share files, and access third-party apps and services.

 

View and Join Teams

  1. View and Join Teams: Click on the Teams icon in the left-hand navigation menu and scroll through the list of teams in the Teams panel. Additionally, you can use the search box to find a specific team.
  2. Join a Team: Click on the Join or create a team button at the bottom of the list and follow the instructions.
  3. Manage Teams Settings: You can select and edit the name of a team, description, picture, and tags. You can also add or remove members, manage channels, and configure apps and settings.
  4. Manage a Specific Team Directly: Click on the ellipsis (...) in the bottom right corner of the team's tile.

Organize and Collaborate in Channels

  1. Access and Organize Channels: Click on the team name and expand the list of channels. You can see the channel name, description, and activity. You can also create new channels, hide or show channels, and manage channel settings.
  2. Collaborate in a Channel: Click on the channel name and use the tabs at the top of the channel window. You can use the Posts tab to start or join a conversation, the Files tab to view or upload files, and the Apps tab to access third-party apps and services.
  3. Manage Channel Settings and Notifications: Click on the ellipsis (...) and select from the prompt.

Manage Channel Settings and Notifications

  1. Navigate to the Teams Section: Click on the "Teams" icon located on the left-hand side menu of the Teams interface. This will display a list of all the teams you're a member of or own.
  2. Select Your Team: Scroll through the list of teams, and click on the team whose settings you wish to manage. If you’re a team owner, you’ll have access to settings not available to regular members.
  3. Access Team Settings: Once inside the team, look for the team name at the top of the window. Next to the team name, you should see an ellipsis (three dots). Click on the ellipsis to open a dropdown menu.
  4. Open "Manage Team" or "Settings": In the dropdown menu, select "Manage team" or a similar option related to settings. This will take you to a new window or tab where you can view and edit various aspects of the team settings.
  5. Explore the Tabs for Settings: Within the "Manage team" section, you'll find several tabs or categories such as "Members", "Channels", "Settings", "Apps", and "Analytics". Click on the "Settings" tab to access the team settings.
  6. Adjust General Settings: Under the "Settings" tab, you can customize:
    • Team Picture: Change the team's profile picture.
    • Privacy Settings: Decide whether the team is private or public.
    • Member Permissions: Configure what actions members can take, such as creating channels or deleting messages.
    • Guest Permissions: If applicable, set what actions guest users are allowed to do within the team.
    • @mentions Settings: Manage whether the entire team can be mentioned by members.
    • Fun Stuff: Depending on your organization's policies, you might be able to manage settings for Giphy, stickers, and memes usage within the team.
  7. Save Your Changes: After making the desired adjustments to your team settings, be sure to click the "Save" button, if available, to apply the changes. Some changes are applied immediately without the need for a save button.
  8. Close the Manage Team Window: Once you're done adjusting settings and have saved your changes, you can close the "Manage team" window or tab to return to your main Teams interface.
