How to get Proctorio in your course

Introduction

Proctorio is available as an integrated Canvas tool for courses whose departments have arranged and funded access. Because Proctorio licensing is based on course use and enrollment, instructors must work with their department to obtain funding before Proctorio can be enabled in a course. Preparing assessment settings, student instructions, and a practice assessment while licensing is being arranged can help instructors and students be ready to use Proctorio when access becomes available.

Prerequisites

Before requesting Proctorio for a Canvas course, you need:

  • A course or planned course in which you intend to use Proctorio.
  • An estimate of the number of students expected to enroll.
  • Departmental approval to fund Proctorio licensing for the course.

Get Proctorio for Your Course

To get Proctorio for your Canvas course, do the following:

  1. Determine how online proctoring will support your course assessments. Plan to communicate expectations to students early and provide a low-stakes practice assessment before a high-stakes proctored exam.
  2. Discuss your proposed use of Proctorio with your department and request approval for the department to cover licensing costs. Provide the course or courses where Proctorio will be used and the approximate expected enrollment.
  3. After funding is approved, have a department representative contact Proctorio licensing representative Dave to arrange licensing and payment. Proctorio will confirm the applicable courses, expected enrollment, licensing requirements, and payment arrangements with the department.
  4. After licensing arrangements are established, Proctorio will notify the campus Canvas LMS administrators which courses are authorized for access. Instructors do not need to submit a separate activation request to the Canvas LMS administrators.
  5. While licensing and activation are being processed, complete available Proctorio and Canvas training. Determine appropriate settings for your assessments, prepare student-facing instructions, and create a low-stakes practice assessment.  Training is available from Proctorio and from TLP.  It is the faculty responsibility to request training,
  6. After authorization is received from Proctorio, the Canvas LMS administrators will enable Proctorio in the approved Canvas course.

Once these steps are complete, Proctorio will be available in the authorized Canvas course. Your course materials and practice assessment should also be prepared so students can become familiar with Proctorio before using it for a high-stakes assessment.  What's next?  Facutly Proctorio guide

Troubleshooting

If Proctorio is not available in your Canvas course, confirm with your department that licensing and payment arrangements have been completed for the correct course. Faculty do not need to request activation directly from the Canvas LMS administrators; Proctorio must first notify the administrators that the course is authorized.

If your department has completed the licensing process but Proctorio is still unavailable, verify with the department or Proctorio that the correct Canvas course was included in the authorization.
