Create Polls for a Zoom Meeting

Quick Links: | Prerequisites | Instructions | Troubleshooting | Next Steps |

Creating polls ahead of your Zoom meetings allows you to prepare engaging questions for your participants. You can create both polls (for gathering opinions) and quizzes (with correct answers) to enhance interaction during your meetings. Polls can be created through the Zoom web portal and will be available to launch during your scheduled meetings.

Prerequisites

Before creating polls, ensure you have:

  • Enabled polling in your Zoom account
  • A scheduled Zoom meeting (Polls must be associated with a scheduled meeting before the meeting begins.)
  • Host permissions for the meeting (alternative hosts can create polls only if enabled in meeting settings)

Step-by-Step Instructions

To create polls for your meeting, do the following:

  1. Sign in to your Chico Zoom web portal at https://csuchico.zoom.us/
  2. Navigate to the Meetings tab
  3. Select the meeting title to open the meeting details page. Do not select Edit, as the Polls/Quizzes tab is available only from the meeting details page.

  5. Select Create

  6. Optional: To create a quiz instead of a poll, select Make it a Quiz in the upper right corner
  7. Create one or more questions using the available poll or quiz question types. Available options may include single choice, multiple choice, matching, ranking, short answer, and other advanced question formats depending on your Zoom settings.
  8. If creating a quiz, select Set Answer and indicate the correct answers
  9. Select Save to store your poll.  (Changes are not available in the meeting until the poll is saved.)

Now your poll is created and ready to launch during your meeting.

Meetings created through the Canvas Zoom integration can also have polls added before the meeting begins.

Polls collect responses and feedback. Quizzes additionally allow you to designate correct answers and review participant performance.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the Polls/Quizzes tab

  • Verify you are viewing the meeting details page rather than the Edit Meeting page.
  • Verify you are the meeting host.
  • Confirm polling is enabled for your Zoom account.

My co-instructor cannot edit polls

  • Alternative hosts can create or edit polls only if that permission was enabled when the meeting was configured.

I created a poll but don't see it in my meeting

  • Verify you are launching the same meeting for which the poll was created.

If you cannot create advanced question types, ensure that Allow host to create advanced polls and quizzes is enabled in your account settings.

Alternative hosts can only create polls if this option was enabled when the meeting was scheduled.
