Zoom AI offers several features that can enhance meeting efficiency and engagement, including the ability to generate meeting summaries and allow participants to ask questions in real-time. These settings are off by default for Chico State Zoom accounts. If you want to enable them, you can choose to do so.
The following are instructions for enabling Zoom AI for meetings you host using your Chico State Zoom account.
Prerequisites
- Access to a Chico State Zoom account.
- Familiarity Zoom's settings.
- Ensure that you have host privileges for the meetings where you intend to use AI features.
Chico State AI Usage Guidelines for Zoom AI
This service is not approved for inputting, generating, or interacting with any information classified by the CSU Chico Data Classification Standard as Level 1 (PII) – Confidential data or Level 2 – Internal Use.
Examples of Level 1 (PII) data include (and is not limited to) information that is governed by existing law or statute, such as an individual’s social security number and name, credit card number and cardholder name, or an individual’s driver’s license and name.
Examples of Level 2 – Internal Use data include (and is not limited to) information that is protected because of ethical or privacy concerns, such as grades, test scores, university transcripts, disciplinary actions, student ID photos, or information that is protected by FERPA.
Copyrighted works, including images, messages, or similar content, may not be uploaded to AI services without the copyright owner’s expressed permission.

Enable Zoom AI
To enable one or more AI features in Zoom:
- Sign in to your Chico State Zoom account on the Zoom web portal.
- From the profile menu, select My Account.
- Select Settings from the sidebar
- Navigate to the Zoom AI tab.
- Select any or all of the Zoom AI features to enable.
Now your Zoom AI settings are active, enabling enhanced meeting management and interaction in your Zoom-hosted sessions. These settings apply to all meetings by default. You can adjust them for individual meetings by modifying the settings within the meeting itself.
Tips:
- Privacy: Do not store or record sensitive information like social security numbers, student education records, or medical records.
- Accuracy: Always review the accuracy of AI-generated summaries, in-meeting responses, and smart recording chapters, and edit them if necessary.
- Audience: Consider the audience: Be aware of who will see meeting summaries.
Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications-like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard and reactions) to train Zoom’s or its third-party artificial intelligence models.
