Cascade Access and Account Rules

Site owners are responsible for the content posted to their subsites within the campus web. Content maintainers are responsible for following best practices when updating Chico State websites.

Web Services has sunset training for the previous Cascade model. Current efforts focus on transitioning sites to updated templates, and future training will align with the new system.

  • Do not share login credentials. If credentials are shared, ISEC will be notified, and accounts may be suspended or terminated.
  • Accounts inactive for one year will be suspended.

Follow Content Standards and Requirements

Appropriate Use of University Websites

  • Cascade is intended for official university websites such as academic units, departments, and offices.
  • Do not use Cascade for student clubs, course content, personal sites, or storing sensitive data.
  • Avoid advertising. Sponsors may be acknowledged, but logos must be smaller than the University logo.
  • All university digital communications are subject to review by University Communications.

Accessibility Requirements

Content Quality Standards

  • Keep content clear, organized, and free of errors or broken links.
  • Follow the University Brand Guidelines.
  • Update content regularly based on audience needs and analytics.
  • Write concise, scannable content.
  • Optimize for mobile users by limiting text and media.
  • Use high-quality, properly sized images.
  • Use only approved graphics and follow the University Photo Policy.
  • Do not publish copyrighted material without permission.

Branding and Design Standards

  • Use the standard Campus Web framework.
  • Consult Web Services before making CSS or JavaScript changes.
  • Do not modify the University header, footer, or subfooter.

Security and Data Protection

  • Do not store Level 1 data in Cascade.
  • Do not publish personal data such as home addresses.
  • Consult Web Services before embedding forms, feeds, or custom code.
  • Limit and review links to external websites.

Maintain and Organize Your Site

  • Maintain organized folders and assets.
  • Use internal links when linking to Chico State pages.
  • Remove or archive unused content.
  • Do not store draft pages in Cascade.
