System Requirements
- Software Requirements
- Requires Android OS 12 or later
- Must be signed into an active Google account
Account Requirements
- Current Faculty & Staff should meet the requirements by default.
- Volunteers and Consultants will need to have their department sponsor request access by completing the Volunteer, Guest, and Consultant Access form.
- Students can access the OnDemand VPN but are not automatically granted access
- If you have a course that requires a VPN connection, you will be granted rights based on course enrollment, no additional steps are required
- If you would like to opt in for access to the OnDemand VPN, please complete the Student Opt-In VPN access form.
Installing and Configuring
Installing GlobalProtect
- Navigate to the App Store on your Android Device. Search for GlobalProtect. You will install the one shown below; an image of a globe with a check box. Give it a moment to download and install.
- Once it's complete, selecting the "Open" button will launch the app. You will need to configure the software the first time you use it.
Configuring GlobalProtect
- Open the GlobalProtect app. It will prompt for a Portal Address. This may change depending on the device type.

For campus-managed iOS devices, enter ao-vpn.csuchico.edu

For personal iOS devices, enter vpn.csuchico.edu

Tap Connect at the bottom of the screen.

The app will now prompt you for your credentials for Sign In. Sign in with your Chico State username and password. You will also need to verify the sign-in using Duo Mobile.

Your Android device should now prompt you to accept a connection request. Tap "OK" to continue with the setup. You should now be connected to the VPN, congratulations!
Uninstalling GlobalProtect
The process to remove the GlobalProtect VPN Client is the same as any other app on your device.
1. Find the GlobalProtect icon on the screen of your device, then tap and hold until the "App info" dialog is displayed. Release and tap the App info bubble.
2. Select Uninstall from the App info menu.
Generating a Log File
In the course of troubleshooting an issue, you may be asked to generate a log file. Only send Log Files to IT Support Services when asked.
- Start by tapping the three horizontal bars in the top left of the GlobalProtect app. Select Help from the menu.
- Enter the desired destination for the log files and select Email Logs
- The app will now ask you to select one of the email clients found on your device. Please select a client that is configured to send and receive email.
- The GlobalProtect app will open your selected email application and automatically attach a zip file containing your log information to a new email.
