Windows 10 has reached the end of life as of October 14, 2025. All campus-managed devices must be upgraded to Windows 11.
If your device is ineligible for an upgrade, please contact IT Support Services to discuss your options.
Time Requirement
The upgrade may take up to 3 hours to complete and will be done in two parts:
Downloading & Installing: up to 2 hours. This is done in the background, and your PC is still usable at this time.
Restarting & Upgrading: up to 1 hour. Your PC will be unusable at this time.
We recommend starting the Downloading & Installing process a few hours before the end of your workday (2 pm - 3 pm) so that the Restarting & Upgrading process is ready by the end of your day (5 pm). This would have the least amount of impact on your regular day-to-day work.
Device Eligibility
Not all devices will be eligible for this upgrade. The easiest way to identify if your device is eligible for the Windows 11 upgrade is to see whether or not you see Windows 11 in the Updates tab in the Software Center.
To determine your device model, look at the Service Tag on the bottom of the laptop or top of the desktop tower. Then visit Dell Support to look up your serial number.
Your Service Tag will be on a sticker either on the bottom of the laptop or the top of the desktop tower. The Service Tag and Asset Tag will not be the same. If you cannot find the Service Tag or the device model, please call IT Support Services for assistance.

If your device is listed as eligible but you are unable to locate the upgrade in Software Center, please contact IT Support Services.
Upgrading Your Device
The following steps will guide you through an in-place upgrade, which should not impact any of your data or installed software. However, we recommend backing up any important files beforehand to prevent potential data loss.
If you'd prefer to have your device wiped and reimaged, please submit a support ticket.
Please ensure all laptops or tablets are connected to power before beginning the process below.
- Open Software Center on your PC. You can do this by clicking the Start icon.
- In Software Center, click the Updates tab on the left sidebar. If eligible, you should see the option for Windows 11 upgrade. If you do not see it, please check your device eligibility.
- Select Update from the list, and you will be prompted to install it.
- Clicking Install will begin the download. This may take a couple of hours to complete. During this time, you can continue to use your device.
- After Windows 11 has finished downloading and installing in the background, you will be prompted to restart your device.
- Click Restart. This will take 30 minutes to an hour to complete. Your device will not be usable during this time.
