Prerequisites
- Recorded lectures uploaded to Kaltura
- Kaltura’s auto-generated transcripts enabled
- Familiarity with Canvas modules or file uploads
- Optional tools: Google Docs, Quizlet, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Word
Step-by-Step Instructions
To create study materials from AI transcripts, do the following:
- Open My Media in Canvas and locate your lecture video.
- Select the video, then use Actions > Caption & Enrich to download the transcript.
- Open the transcript in a text editor or Google Docs.
- Use the transcript to generate helpful study resources:
- Summaries: Create short executive summaries or outlines for each major topic.
- Glossaries: Highlight and define key terms, then compile them into a glossary.
- Practice Questions: Write multiple-choice or discussion questions based on key ideas or quotes.
- Visual Aids: Paste portions of the transcript to create
- Format key terms or definitions in bold or color to improve visibility.
- Upload the study aids to your Canvas module under a section like “Lecture Study Resources.”
Troubleshooting
- If students report transcript inaccuracy, encourage them to cross-reference with the recording.
- Flashcard tools may auto-generate poor results—always review for correctness.
- Avoid overwhelming students with too many resources—focus on 2-3 formats per lecture.
