Introduction

After Gradescope finishes grading a bubble sheet assignment, instructors can review student results and publish grades. Gradescope also supports exporting student responses for additional analysis and posting grades to a connected learning management system (LMS), such as Canvas. Assignments with multiple versions can be managed individually or together. Reviewing results before publishing helps instructors confirm that grades are ready for students.

Prerequisites

  • Instructor access to a Gradescope course.
  • An existing bubble sheet assignment with graded submissions.
  • A configured Gradescope-to-Canvas integration if posting grades to Canvas.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Review, Export, and Post Bubble Sheet Grades

Review and Publish Grades

To review and publish bubble sheet grades in Gradescope, do the following:

  1. Open the bubble sheet assignment in Gradescope.
  2. Navigate to Review Grades.
  3. Review student scores and confirm that grading is complete.
  4. If the assignment contains multiple versions, select the appropriate version tab to view those results.
  5. Select All to view grades across every assignment version.
  6. Follow the Gradescope instructions for publishing grades to make results available to students.

Once grades are published, students can view their available results in Gradescope.

Export Student Answer Reports

Gradescope provides a CSV report containing each student's answers and scores for individual questions. question-by-question response data.

To export student responses, do the following:

  1. Open the bubble sheet assignment.
  2. Navigate to Review Grades.
  3. Select the appropriate assignment version or All.
  4. Select Download Responses.
  5. Open the downloaded CSV file in a spreadsheet application.

You can use the report to compare student performance across questions, calculate adjusted scores, or evaluate results across different assignment versions.

For additional export options, see Exporting Evaluations and Submissions in Gradescope.

Post Grades to Canvas

Gradescope can transfer assignment scores to Canvas when the assignment is correctly linked through the LMS integration.

There are several ways to post grades, depending on whether the bubble sheet assignment has one version or multiple versions.

Post All Grades to One Canvas Assignment

To post all bubble sheet grades to one Canvas assignment, do the following:

  1. Open your bubble sheet assignment in Gradescope.
  2. Navigate to Review Grades.
  3. Select All if the assignment contains multiple versions.
  4. Confirm that the Gradescope assignment is linked to the intended Canvas assignment.
  5. Select Post Grades to Canvas.

Gradescope transfers scores across all selected assignment versions to the linked Canvas gradebook column.

Post Grades from Different Versions Separately

The "Post Grades to Canvas" button transfers only the total overall score for the assignment into the Canvas Gradebook column—it does not transfer question-by-question response data. To post grades from individual bubble sheet versions to separate Canvas assignments, do the following:

  1. Open the bubble sheet assignment in Gradescope.
  2. Navigate to Review Grades.
  3. Select the tab for the assignment version you want to post.
  4. Confirm that the version is linked to the appropriate Canvas assignment.
  5. Select Post Grades to Canvas.
  6. Repeat these steps for each additional version.

Each version's grades are transferred to its corresponding Canvas assignment.

Troubleshooting

If grades do not appear in Canvas, verify that the Gradescope assignment or assignment version is linked to the correct Canvas assignment before posting grades again.

If you cannot export evaluations or submissions for every assignment version simultaneously, select an individual version tab. These exports are not available from the All tab.
