Active Directory on Azure Virtual Desktop

Accessing the Virtual Desktop App

Before you can manage groups, you will need to access the Active Directory Virtual Desktop. You can do this either through the Azure Virtual Desktop Website or by installing the Windows Virtual Desktop App.

If you want to install the Windows Remote Desktop app on your campus-managed device, you should be able to do this from either Self Service (Mac) or Software Center (PC). PC users should see the Active Directory app immediately once they sign in. Mac users will have to click the plus (+) icon, then Add Workspace and copy/paste the following URL into the box: https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/api/arm/feeddiscovery/

Signing in to the Virtual Desktop

When prompted to sign in, please use your Chico State email (username@csuchico.edu) and Chico State Password.

The next screen should show the Active Directory Users and Computers application under "General Workstation". Double-click to launch the app. From here, you may have a slightly different experience depending on how you are accessing the app.

If you are using the Windows Remote Desktop app, you will be prompted to sign in again with your Chico State email (username@csuchico.edu) and Chico State Password.

If you are using the Azure Virtual Desktop Website, a window will appear to ask for access to local resources; click Allow. In the next window, you'll be prompted to add your credentials again. This time login with only your username and password, not your email address.

Using Active Directory

Everyone may use Active Directory slightly differently. Most people are using it to manage security groups or distribution lists.

When the app launches, make sure to click csuchico.edu in the left sidebar. On the toolbar on the top, click the icon that looks like a notepad with a magnifying glass. This will bring up the menu to search for the groups you manage.
