Publishing to the Live Site | Publishing to the Development Site | Disable Publishing
This article is only applicable to site maintainers of Cascade 3.0.
Requirements:
- Must be a site maintainer
- Must be part of the site's publishing group
Publishing to the Live Site
Your page is ready for publishing when the site maintainer has finished editing and ensured compliance with accessibility and web writing standards.
Not ready to publish to the live site? You can preview your changes on the dev site or choose the Full Screen Preview setting in Cascade. Both options preview your edits with the University styling.
Steps to Publish Your Page
- Complete all edits on the page.
- Press submit and add a descriptive comment summarizing your changes.
- Select the publish button. A pop-up window will appear.
- Select the drop-down arrow in the “View Publish Settings” section. All destinations should be checkmarked.
- Select the publish button to view your edits on the live site. It may take a few minutes to replicate your changes.
Troubleshooting
- I published my page, but I cannot see my edits on the live site.
If you visit this page frequently, your browser may cache old content. To see updates, perform a hard refresh (PC: CTRL + F5, Mac: Command + Shift + R) OR open the URL in a different browser.
Full Screen Preview
- Locate the completed page.
- Select the “More” tab on the top-right corner of the Cascade page.
- Select “Full Screen Preview” to view your edits on a separate window.
This link is viewable only by you and cannot be shared.
Publishing to the Development Site
When publishing, you can opt to send the page to the development server instead of the live site. The “pros” of using the development site is that you can:
- Get one last look at your edits with the exact look and feel of the live site
- Share the dev link with your supervisor or team
In order to reach the development server, the user must be within the campus intranet/ VPN.
Steps To Publish Your Page on the Development Site
- When you are done editing the page, press the submit button.
- Select the publish button.
- Select the drop down arrow for "View Publish Settings". The wwwdev destination should be the only check marked option.
- Publish your page to the development site.
- To view the dev page, open the live URL and enter "dev" next to the "www" section.
Example: wwwdev.csuchico.edu/sitefolder
You can share this link with anyone on your team, provided they are logged into the VPN.
Disable Publishing
Did you know that, periodically, the entire campus web is published live? That means if you have a page in progress that you’ve been working on in Cascade and/or testing on the dev server, it could be published without you knowing it.
Steps to Disable Publishing of a Page in Cascade
- Right-click on your page name, then select Edit.
- Select "Configure" at the top.
- Uncheck "Include when publishing"
- Save your page.
- Your page will not be included if the site is published and you will not be able to publish your page until you re-enable publishing.
