When signing in to Zoom, the user receives an error message stating "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO." This issue prevents users from accessing their Zoom accounts and affects anyone attempting to sign in using Single Sign-On (SSO).

Error message showing, "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO. Please contact your admin and provide the following tracking ID."

Environment

This article is relevant to you if:

  • You are trying to sign in to Zoom through the Chico State portal.
  • You use Single Sign-On (SSO) to reach Zoom.
  • After submitting your credentials, Zoom displays an error message stating "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO." and a tracking ID that begins with WEB_.

Solution

To fix the "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO" error, follow these steps:

  1. Open a ticket with Learning Technology Services.
  2. Copy the entire tracking ID shown beneath the error (it starts with WEB_…) and paste it into your ticket. If possible, include a screenshot of the error with the ID clearly visible.

Learning Technology Services will fix the issue preventing your account from being found.

Root Cause

When Zoom receives an SSO request, it normally creates (provisions) the user’s Zoom account automatically. When that automatic provisioning fails—typically because the user’s institutional account was created very recently or contains incomplete metadata—Zoom shows the SSO error and tracking ID. A manual account-provisioning step by Learning Technology Services resolves the mismatch.
