Turnitin enables instructors and students to check the similarity of student work comparing submissions to other sources on the Internet and in Turnitin's extensive database. Additionally, instructors can directly mark-up student submissions - saving your frequently used comments in libraries of "quick marks" for improved work flow - as Turnitin integrates into your existing Canvas courses.
Why Should I use Turnitin?
- Detect potential plagiarism: Turnitin compares submissions against a vast database of content, helping uphold academic integrity.
- Efficient feedback mechanisms: Utilize drag-and-drop comments, voice comments, and grading rubrics for comprehensive feedback (Feedback Studio integration only).
- Integration with Canvas: Seamlessly add Turnitin to assignments within your existing course structure.
Since students own the copyrights to their works (in most cases), Turnitin asks students for confirmation to submit a copy of their paper to Turnitin's repository. Students opting out of this may need alternatives, such as: requiring a photocopy of the first page of all reference sources used, an annotated bibliography, and a one page paper reflecting on their research methodology.
Similarity Check
Turnitin's Similarity Check service is available to all Chico State faculty using the Turnitin Canvas Plagiarism Framework integration.
Feedback Studio
For instructors who prefer to use Turnitin's grading interface, you can request Turnitin Feedback Studio to be enabled for your course by emailing Learning Technology Services.
Note: Turnitin Feedback Studio is only enabled by request. If you just need to see similarity reports, follow the guides above.
