Users are encountering an error stating that their Zoom account doesn’t exist when trying to use the Zoom integration in Canvas. This issue occurs even though users can access both Canvas and Zoom separately without problems. The error prevents them from scheduling or joining Zoom meetings via Canvas.
Environment
- Canvas
- Courses using the Canvas Zoom App
Solution
Zoom Error 1001 typically occurs when you're not using SSO to sign in to Zoom. To fix the issue where Zoom integration in Canvas states that your account doesn’t exist, follow these steps:
-
Download the Zoom client (if it's not already installed):
-
Log into Zoom:
- Open the Zoom application.
- Select Sign In with SSO on the login screen.
- On the SSO screen, enter the domain "csuchico" so that the full domain reads as
csuchico.zoom.us
.
- This will redirect you to a campus login form where you can log in using your usual credentials.
Now, you should be able to use the Zoom integration within Canvas without encountering the "account doesn’t exist" error.
Root Cause
When users attempt to use Zoom within Canvas without logging in via SSO (Single Sign-On), the system cannot authenticate their university account properly. The Zoom integration in Canvas requires authentication through the university's SSO to recognize the user account.
