Connecting to GlobalProtect VPN

To connect to GlobalProtect VPN:

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray near the clock.
  2. If prompted, select Enable.
  3. Sign in using your Chico State username and password.
  4. Approve the login request using Duo.

When GlobalProtect attempts to connect, a browser window may open asking you to Open GlobalProtect and approve the connection. Once connected, GlobalProtect will remain active and automatically attempt to reconnect when needed.

Checking GlobalProtect Connection Status

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray.
  2. View the status beneath the globe icon, such as Connected – Internal, Connected – External, or Disabled.

Troubleshooting GlobalProtect VPN Issues

Confirm Internet Connectivity

GlobalProtect does not provide internet access. It creates a secure connection over your existing network. You must connect to Wi-Fi or wired internet before the VPN can connect.

Captive Portal Networks

If you are on hotel, conference, airplane, or guest Wi-Fi, you may need to open a browser and accept terms or sign in before GlobalProtect can connect.

Connection Failed Error

If you receive the message “Connection Failed – Gateway ao-vpn-gw”:

  1. Confirm you are connected to the internet.
  2. Open a browser and visit https://ao-vpn.csuchico.edu.
  3. If the page loads without signing in and the VPN still fails, contact IT Support Services.

Collecting GlobalProtect Logs

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray.
  2. Select the three horizontal lines menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Open the Troubleshooting tab.
  5. Select Collect Logs.

  6. Select Open Folder to locate the GlobalProtectLogs.zip file.
  7. Provide this file to IT Support Services if requested.
