Mac OS X VPN Setup

VPN Requirements - Mac OS X

In order to connect, an Internet connection is required. 

  • Clearpass Onguard Client Software ​
    • This application ensures the device meets campus security requirements.
    • If the computer is setup for eduroam, it will most likely have the program already installed.
    • Follow the link to install Clearpass.
      • Supported Antivirus with real time protection enabled and patching enabled.
      • Mac OS X recommended: Avira Antivirus.
      • Further information can be found at www.csuchico.edu/nac.
    • **Clearpass Onguard will NOT connect or prompt for password until the VPN is connected.***
  • Hardware requirements 
    • CPU: Intel/AMD 1.8GHz, 32-bit/64 bit processor
    • System Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Disk Space: Install 25MB | Logging 50 MB | Total 75 MB
    • Networking: 10/100/1000 Wired Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. *802.11b is not supported on campus wireless.
  • Operating System Requirements
    • Mac OS X: 10.8.X, 10.9.X, 10.10.X

 

Getting Connected via Pulse Secure VPN

1. Download the Pulse Secure client for Mac OS X here:

2. Open the downloaded .dmg file.

3. Open the .mkpg icon to start the installation.

4. The setup wizard should start, select "Continue".

5. Next, the wizard will inform users on storage space required.  Select "Install".

Choose the installation location for Pulse Secure.

6. On the next prompt, provide the username and password for the computer. Select "Install Software".

7. The installation should complete successfully, select "Close".

8. Open the Pulse Secure application. (Via spolight search or the application folder).

9. Select the "+" button to add a new connection.

10. The "Name" is customizable.  For the "Server URL" enter chicovpn.csuchico.edu and select "Save".

11. The connection should be added, select "Connect".

12. It will prompt a page informing users on VPN usage. Read the page and select "Proceed".

13. Enter a valid Chico State username/password and select "Connect".

14. It will return to the home screen and properly reflect the connection status.
