Windows VPN Setup

VPN Requirements - Windows

  • Clearpass Onguard Client Software 
    • This application ensures the device meets campus security requirements.
    • If the device is setup for eduroam, the program will already be installed.
    • Follow the link to install Clearpass.
    • **Clearpass Onguard will NOT connect or prompt for password until the VPN is connected.***
  • Hardware requirements 
    • CPU: Intel/AMD 1.8GHz, 32-bit/64 bit processor
    • System Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Disk Space: Install 25MB | Logging 50 MB | Total 75 MB
    • Networking: 10/100/1000 Wired Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. *802.11b is not supported on campus wireless.
  • Operating System Requirements
    • Windows: Vista, 7, 8  *Windows 8 RT is NOT supported.

Getting Connected via Pulse Secure VPN

1. Download the Pulse Secure Client

2. Once downloaded, run the application that was download.


3. A window will appear asking to open the file, select "Run".

4. The setup wizard will begin, select "Next".

5. When ready to install the program, select "Install".

6. It may take several minutes to install.  Once completed, select "Finish".

7. When Pulse Secure opens, select the "+" to add a new connection.

8. The "Name" is customizable, the "Server URL" must be Select "Connect".

9. It will prompt a page regarding VPN access. Read the text and select "Proceed".

10. The next prompt requires a valid Chico State username and password. Select "Connect".

11. If successful, it should automatically return to the home screen showing the connection status.
